Orange Alert for Storms in Buenos Aires

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued alerts for storms in various areas of Argentina. An orange alert remained in effect for the City and Greater Buenos Aires, southern Santa Fe, and Entre Ríos, while a yellow alert extended to Corrientes, Córdoba, Santiago del Estero, La Rioja, Mendoza, La Pampa, and San Luis.

Since noon, heavy rains have been recorded in the City of Buenos Aires and towns in the province, while no precipitation is expected for the weekend. Meanwhile, delays and cancellations of flights have been reported at airports due to security measures implemented in response to electrical activity in the region.

"The delays are related to security measures implemented at all airports in the country, where an electrical activity alert system operates, which means that when it signals red, all runway activities are suspended," aviation authorities explained.

The SMN has advised the population to stay sheltered in closed places like homes, schools, and buildings, to stay away from electrical appliances, to avoid using landlines, and not to walk on flooded streets. They also urge cutting off electricity in case of the risk of water entering homes.
